Okay. I have taken a hiatus for the past few months and I apologize. It’s just that I didn’t want to bore you to death with the absolute dullness of my life. I’m talking duller than the flat side of a plastic knife. But things have really picked up in the last week. Pat, my still raw-to-mention-her-name x, finally called this week after three months of postponing her plans to stay with me until she gets her feet on the ground. She arrives Sunday. The guest bedroom and bath I cleaned for her in February is still relatively clean so I plan on doing nothing special to mark her arrival. Then there was the excitement today of the company I have been working going out of business. We were told this fact at 4 o’clock along with the dictum to clear out our desks and leave by 5. I think the owners were afraid we would steal things if given the time and in fact I did notice a few computers leave under the cover of rain coats and shopping bags. No one cried or screamed or did much of anything but shrug, pack, and leave. The only person I said goodbye to was Sun, the morose, black-haired woman who frightened all employees. She was the only one who made a lasting impression on me. I did buy an extra pack of Oreos and beer on the way home, but nothing else to really signify the terror I am sure to feel soon. Secretly, I think part of me is really glad. I hated that job.
Kate's award winning romance novel

A Place to Find Me by Kate
Cassie is a forty-six-year-old waitress living in Texas. Her lover has left. Her best friend has moved. If Cassie were paying attention, she would notice that her life is a mess. But she has a dog and a house full of memories to keep her warm at night until her mother dies when she suddenly becomes head of a family business--and not a particularly friendly family at that. She finds solace in the arms of an employee only to find out that the lovely woman comes at a very high price. But it isn't until tragedy blind sides Cassie that she is able to step into a world of purpose and hope. If only Haley hadn't come along...
